Very Comfortable & Convenient Location
We enjoyed our stay here very much! The place was clean and comfortable! We really loved the Christmas lights and decor which made our stay festive. The beds are comfortable and there were lots of blankets to choose from (for us picky people)!
The only negative comment I have is the fireplace was listed as an amenity but when we arrived it stated on the paperwork, left in the home, that it could not be used. It should be removed from the amenities as part of the reason we booked this place was so we would have a fireplace to warm up with since it was December and it gives good ambiance for romance!
The house is in a great location and convenient to everything we were doing. The large window in the living room lets you have a great view of Pikes Peak!
Linda has a lovely place and was helpful and kind. We would stay here again!
Cozy and clean place. Owners are very nice and will work with you. Would stay again here when I come back to Colorado
A lovely neighborhood and a responsive host
This location is exactly as it is written on the description, and we were very happy with the stay as it was close to our family. The one problem was the snow was not cleared on the driveway which was on a small hill, and, initially, I could not make it up the driveway. The host responded to my phone call and greeted us with suggestions on how to get up the hill. I would have been happier and less stressed about the driveway during our stay had it been cleared as the neighbors' hilly driveways were cleared. This made the check in process unpleasant.
Thank you for your comments. In regards to the snow on the driveway... we had 2 snowfalls within the week when our guest arrived. That's Colorado for you - it's called "snow country". I am a one-person show here. My first priority is to make sure I have the apartment cleaned by 3pm for my next guest (from the previous guest who left that morning). My neighbors whose driveways were shoveled that day have snow plows - I don't. If they had to shovel their driveways by hand, I can assure you that their driveways would not have been shoveled either - and they have multiple people living in their homes. I don't think my guest realizes how much work is involved in shoveling these big hilly driveways - especially when it has been snowing a lot in Colorado. I did my best. I got as far as shoveling the walking area where the car would be parked and all the way up to the front door, before my guests arrived. We have it noted in our listing that our street goes up a hill up to our place. So when anyone books here - especially in the winter season, they can expect to be driving on snow on my street and up to my place. And a recommendation for driving on snow uphill is not to stop before your reach your destination, as your tires will lose their traction and start sliding..... Another issue was that I was not aware that my guest just had a hip replacement, which caused her extra stress with the snow. I would suggest that a hotel stay would be the better choice in situations as these, as hotels have the budget to pay full-time maintenance people whose job is to keep the parking lots & driveways consistently plowed for their patrons.
Wonderful Little getaway!
The property is super cute and was very clean! It was nice with all the amenities. Definitely better than staying in a hotel!
Property was as described and we appreciated the snack basket as we hiked.
I was hoping to meet my guest here, but my schedule did not cooperate - especially with my guest being here for only 2 nights. So my apologies to this guest for not being able to connect with her personally as I usually do.
Either way, I gave my guest a "5 star" rating for the "communication" question, even though I never got to meet nor talk with her. She was very respectful of the place, and I thank her for thinking of us! :)
All great except one thing in particular
With one or two exceptions, everything was fine. The rental unit has its own private entrance, in fact it is the front door, and sits atop a hill with great views and off-street parking. The resident owner was very nice and responded quickly to any questions by text. The interior is a private apartment that has been well decorated and constructed as an individual, private, dedicated unit. This becomes important later. There is a microwave oven, counter height dorm-type refrigerator, electric slow cooker, and many other appliances, (but no stand alone gas or electric oven). There is a lot of room, and there is a big front picture window with great mountain views, including Pike's Peak (the home is at the top of a hill on a dead end street). Cooking is easy (but you will have to crack open a window for ventilation depending on what you are cooking). There is a space heater in living room in case you are chilly, which I was at times, even though there was central heat throughout the place. Generally, not a problem if you use the space heater in the living room, but there are warnings about cooking at the same time as it could risk blowing a circuit breaker. My most significant concern: the inappropriate prominent display of evangelical religious materials. It was inappropriate because it was not disclosed in the listing, and it was inappropriate because of the risk that it would risk making people of different backgrounds, cultures, religions, feel uncomfortable if not discriminated against; this is a vacation rental that is open for people to rent and guests should not be exposed to books such as: The Bait of Satan, Deliver us from Evil (by Sean Hannity, no less), & Breaking the Jewish Code to name but a few titles. They were all large books, at the same level as the TV so not hard to miss. A far-right religious talk show was on the TV upon arrival. People are free to have whatever books or materials they want in their own homes, but this is public accommodation. Freedom of religion is not the freedom to impose one person's views on another, especially a captive audience, and it does not depend on how many complain. I would gather there is an easy way to resolve this: 1) make it clear in the ad that conservative evangelical material will be prominently displayed or, 2) remove the material from the rental (there are plenty of Hollywood and leisure materials on display that do not involve discussions of Jewish people, Satan, and Sean Hannity.
In response to this guy's “most significant concern”: I was still in the apartment just finishing up when this guy arrived at 3pm. I had the TV on to make sure that it was in good working order from the previous guests who just departed that morning....and I kept the TV on while I was cleaning the apartment. People who come to stay in our place are here to enjoy the “splendor of Colorado”– not to criticize “books” on a bookshelf nor the “channel” the TV is on....(which, by the way, has a simple fix – bring your own reading material, and change the channel on the TV!) … But based on this particular guy, who made sure when booking our place that we knew he was a “professor emeritus”, and based on the tone of his review, I think this guy had a different agenda, as has been the pattern with many college professors in this country (who, by the way, prey on vulnerable, naive "captive audiences") - which is to attack the beliefs of others who don't line up with their beliefs. -----But for this guy to pull this kind of nonsense in MY home - is HIGHLY offensive & insulting to me! This is a “vacation destination” - not a war zone! That he would even THINK he has the right to come into my home and “antagonize” me and attack my “moral standards” is extremely disrespectful - and “bullying” at its best!! And contrary to what he'd like to believe - this is a “private” residence, not a public place! I open my private home to traveling guests who are looking for a safe “home-style” experience in a beautiful mountain setting with wildlife. --- If anyone demonstrated what this guy judged as, “discrimination”, “inappropriateness”, “making people feel uncomfortable”, and "imposing your views on another"....this guy needs to look no further than himself – for he just judged himself as "guilty", as he verbally demonstrated in his review here, his inappropriateness, his discrimination of me & my beliefs, his making me feel uncomfortable, and his "forcing" his views on others! --- And for the record (and the reader), this "professor" does NOT know his Constitution nor his First Amendment on religious freedom. NOWHERE does it say, "Freedom of religion is not the freedom to impose one person's views on another." NOWHERE! That's False information! Fake News! The First Amendment of the Constitution is talking about "Congress" being restricted in its actions - not "the people" being restricted in their actions & religious expression. (Make sure to read it for yourself, so you're not deceived by others!) ------- In closing....We had the pleasure of hosting "Vanity Fair Magazine" who booked a night here doing a “national interview” in the family room with the bookshelves, and we had no problem nor complaints whatsoever – because "Vanity Fair Magazine" is professional...and exercises respect.
