Perfect little bothy for couple with dogs
Great accommodation. Fully equipped with everything you need and more. Fantastic position for discovering all that northern Skye has to offer.
Lovely Bothy, fine for our needs. Amazing view of hills and mountain and a very short walk to the beach.
Lovely holiday 😎
The cottage was very clean and tidy lovely location and the little extras really helped make the holiday great thanks to Ellen 😁
Good value for money Skye holiday
Ellens Bothy is one of the better value properties on the Isle of Skye. By that I mean what you get in return for the money it costs.
Its location is at the north end of the island so it's an hours drive from when you cross the Skye bridge. Situated on the junction of the only two roads in this area, it can get busy with motor homes, cars and motor bikes, but not a problem. Sitting underneath the Quiraing makes the view from the back garden stunning, You cannot see the sea from this property as it sits in a hollow, but you can certainly hear it. Its well placed for many tourist attractions but being in the north of the island, others are quite a drive away (1 hour or so).
The property is small and traditional in style for the area. White painted walls are in common with nearly all other houses on the island. Small, low level windows are also completely in character.
Parking is more than enough and the garden is fenced round. As dog owners, this was a real bonus. We could let them out safely and they enjoyed racing around the property. There is a lawn at the back with shrubs and the front is mostly to hard standing.
Inside the property the atmosphere is one of homeliness. Inside the entrance porch there is room for hanging coats and standing boots and shoes. Left is the bedroom. A small double bed (very firm for you bad back sufferers) and a furniture for hanging some clothes. Side lamps and a storage heater complete what was a warm room.
The bathroom is next door. Perfectly adequate and functional. Modern shower and enclosure. Power shower really nice. Warm towel rail and towels!
On to the combined kitchen / lounge/ diner. The kitchen is actually bigger than the photos suggest. It runs all the way down one side of the long room. Fridge freezer, washing machine, hob, ovens, microwave all clean and in working order. Loads of other kitchen equipment for day to day living all in good order and importantly clean.
There is no TV or WiFi here. For us that was a nice change. There is a TV for DVDs but we didn't bother. If your into your telly or box sets then this may concern you. Vodafone mobile signal was good for calls but not data, so no streaming TV that way either. There was a good supply of books and games so you could try something different!
The lounge was simple but cozy. The settee not the most comfortable I've sat on, but the log burner made the cool evenings pleasant.
Good value holiday base
Many thanks for taking the time to review my property and give me 5 stars! I'm glad you enjoyed your holiday here. The bothy is simple, rustic but cosy and all amenities as you stated and perfect for pets. Plus in a great location, situated at the bottom of the Quiraing. Being in such a popular location, there can be quite a bit of traffic during the day, but after 5pm it all goes quiet! I would beg to differ about the sea views. You can see the sea from the property albeit not a panoramic view, however the views of the Trotternish ridge more than make up for this. The beach is a 10 minute walk. The bothy represents absolute value for money in a great location in what has become a very expensive island. Many thanks again for your review. It is appreciated.
Lovely welcoming bothy
Ellen’s bothy was a a fantastic base for our week on the Isle of Skye. It had everything we needed & Rita the dog was made to feel very welcome.
Coast / Beach:
