The attic apartment, while newish, clean and tidy, felt a little claustrophobic. Sadly it didn't really show the amazing views out the front (we had rain most of the time we were there and were not able to use the terrace). While it was renovated it had an unfinished feel about it (wires hanging out the walls). An outdoor setting for the dining table just felt cheap.
With a car it would be much easier to get into town (it was a brisk 20 - 25 minute walk otherwise). The beach out the front was really good & so close to the apartment. Great if you didn't want to venture out. Free parking was handy if you had a car.
This was a very comfortable apartment, and we were fortunate to meet the owner, Steve, who with his partner, were very helpful and welcoming. We had unfortunate weather while staying here, so the books, wine and chocolate helped. It continually rained for 2 days!
I think it fair to let people know that the location is 10 mins walk to the edge of Korcula town, and it is more like 15-20 mins to the centre of the ten where all the restaurants, shops, supermarket and places of interest are. It is not a big deal if you are used to walking and very pleasant along the coast.
Villa Jade situated on the edge of Korcula is a great location, close to the centre of Korcula Town but far enough away to be quiet and peaceful. You walk down the steps at the front of the property and cross the road to a small beach and safe swimming area.
From your balcony you look out over the Korcula Channel to the Peljesac Peninsula. This 2-3 mile wide waterway is always busy with yachts, small cruise boats and the occasional ferry boat. Also from the balcony you see the elegant bell tower of the Dominican Monastery besides which is Maksimilian Gardens, a fine restaurant in cool gardens.
It is also a good location for exploring the island - quick to get out onto the main spine road of Korcula Island
The apartments are elegantly finished outside and comfortable inside. It contained everything we needed for our week's stay. The manager Zeljka lives next door and is cheerful and helpful.
We thoroughly enjoyed our week!
My wife and I shared a week with two friends in the Attic apartment of Villa Jade. As a base for exploring and enjoying the beautiful island of Korcula with its hidden gem of a city, this villa is hard to beat.
The weather helped - sunshine all week. We returned each evening - from a day out walking, picnicking, drinking local wine in the villages, swimming in crystal-clear deserted waters, or exploring stunning Korcula town near to the villa - to a cool spacious comfortable apartment, easily accessed, with very elegant but uncluttered facilities. We then sat out on the balcony, with a stunning view across the water to the mainland mountains of the Peljesac peninsula - the perfect spot in the evening for wine and chat about the day, and in the morning for breakfast. The daily visit of a red-backed shrike to the treetop in front of the balcony was a highlight. Eating in (an occasional event!) was a pleasure, with a well equipped kitchen area.
We had a car - we reckon this was a definite plus, and in telling our friends about the villa (which we are doing) we are recommending a car also. We ate out most nights and although it is a pleasant walk to the town (especially in the morning) it is a bit long for a nightly walk back after eating out - but we are in our 60’s. The island seemed extra fun with a car because of the remote beaches and hill walks to be found. There were good maps left in the villa for driving and walking - the national park has great walks and is just along the coast from the villa. We had no dud restaurants during our stay - Korcula Town was excellent for eating, including the more touristy looking places along the sea wall on the far side of town from the villa (especially when Croatia were playing Brazil in the World Cup) and the more traditional 'konobas' recommended in the villa visitors book.
We particularly liked: the small towns and remote villages - everyone very friendly, plenty of good but not strenuous walking; the quiet road along the coast from the villa away from town - good places to eat and swim; the vinery at Lumbarda and the wilder coast out beyond; the olive oil museum at Vela Luka; and the hours wandering Korcula Town. Boat hire was easy and fun. Best swimming is from rocky beaches.
The administration of the villa was efficient, all details clear, no hidden costs. It was clean and well maintained. Overall an ideal apartment for exploring a terrific island.
This was our second stay in the Attic Apartment for two weeks, giving us plenty of time to explore the Island of Korcula. Once again we felt right a home with enough conveniences to not to get frustrated, as one can do when trying to rustle up a meal and with all the benefits of this villa's location and beautiful view. We were travelling with two children, 6 and 2 yrs and the convenience of just popping down to the beach below was great. Another nice thing about the attic apartment is that once you are at the top of the hill, it is very safe and convenient with small kids, as an example all the balconies are enclosed and safe, all rooms have shutters so you can have darkness during the day for naps etc. We enjoy the peacefulness of the local village whilst still being able to take the lovely walk into town, so really great spot.
We spent a week in the ground floor apartment at Villa Jade. This was very spacious with a good modern kitchen. Large balcony with 2 sunbeds, table and chairs, superb views towards Korcula Town and across to the mainland.Easy access to the sea and sunbathing area across a quiet road just outside the front of Villa Jade. An easy 10 minute walk to Maximillians for beautiful sunsets and fantastic food. Another 10 mins into the centre of the lovely Old Town. A very friendly welcome on our arrival. A lovely holiday. Highly recommended
