The home was not the home originally listed and was the listers mothers house, the house was not properly furnished as it had three bedrooms but only had furnishings for two bedrooms, very expensive and not worth the money for only furniture and bedding for two people. The Mother lives on property and though very nice she would just stop by without notice and nose around. They have also filed a claim for damages to bedding material totaling 1,400 dollars, these people live in one of the wealthiest places in the world and they are trying to scam an insurance company out of 1,400 dollars, I would avoid these properties at all cost.
I was very upfront that you would stay in my mother’s home and that it was sparsely furnished - your dogs chewed numerous quilts and were tethered outside without water so my parents felt badly and would bring them water - the damage claim didn’t cost you anything - in future I would recommend bringing these concerns to your host instead of leaving an unfair review that does not accurately reflect what happened thanks Jessica
*Warning* Many things to know about his property before booking
We stayed on the property for a few hours and had to leave due to some major misrepresentations of the property listing. 1) there were cats and dogs staying on the property. My wife is allergic to cats and it would have been very dangerous to stay in the residence with cats there had we known. The owner has since updated a small decription in the summary, but understand, that there will be cats literally roaming around 2) the owner will be staying on the property and will be in and out on the property without notice 3) there was a strange man staying in back of the property in a trailer which did not feel safe to have a family around. 4) there were several items that were severely lacking as well - the house needs lots of TLC - multiple light bulbs burned out and flickering, broken stair railing, and overall a dirty home. 5) she does not want her neighbors to know you are renting the home and indicates that a note when you walk in.
Overall, I would be very very weary booking a stay at this location.
Thank you! Thank you! Thank you!
Thank you so very much, Jessica, Sam & Foster, for allowing us to vacation in your home a second time💖 We had the best vacation- ever! The house and surrounding gardens are very beautiful. To be so close to visit Manhattan, spend time with our family scattered throughout the tri-state area, yet stay in the peaceful country, was truly a wonderful blessing💖 As you witnessed, the pups also had the best vacation spending time with their new friends🐕🐕🐕
Thank you so much for the lovely review - We loved having you! Thank you so much for returning and hope to see you again soon - thank you for leaving the place so immaculate - and the paint set for Sam- so sweet of you- truly a pleasure having you and your pups! Safe travels!
Perfect location and charming cozy home
Our 2nd stay at Jessica’s home, love the place! Everything you could possibly need, and Jessica is extremely accommodating to any needs. We’ll stay here again when coming to the area without question.
Nice house but need to know several things
First of all, this is a nice farm house on a secluded property which includes a cottage, chicken coop and horse barn and corral. Kids will have a great time with the chickens and horses. The house itself has a large main floor, a second floor with a master bedroom, large renovated bathroom, and a small single bed child's bedroom. There is a third floor with a queen size bed. There are a total of one full and one half baths - the basement bathroom is not really usable.
There are several things that a perspective renter should know. First of all, the house owner moves into the cottage next door when she rents the house. She does have several cats in the main house (one was sitting in the living room when we arrived), so anyone with cat allergies beware. My son and I had problems with this during our stay. When we arrived, we had to make multiple accommodations as it was not completely set up for renters - no room in the closets or dressers for clothes, refrigerator was half full with owner's food, etc. Additionally, the house needs some TLC - mouse problem in the kitchen, multiple light bulbs burned out (we bought and replaced 4), broken kitchen chair and upstairs bed... Also, we ran out of water one night - owner did repair next day and filled tanks from neighbor's water supply.
In summary there are pluses and minuses with the house, as described above.
From the short distance on a curved country road to a lovely country cottage and a mid century home you feel transported to a simpler time and space. It is a quiet place where on occasion you hear the horses playing in their pen or the chicken and roosters talking about whatever live poultry talk about. The hostess is attentive and kind. I enjoyed her patience with me as I gave the horses some carrots and brushed the pony. It had been years since I had been back to Connecticut and I knew at once the 3 of us made a good choice.
If you are looking for a sterile hotel like vacation spot then this may not be for you. It is a home that is rented out on occasion and lived in when it is not. Now a days you have to be creative with this economy. For us, this house and experience was just what the 3 of us needed. We have been friends close to 45 years and live very far apart. I would recommend this rental for those who are not inclined to be put off by a family who actually lives there one week or one month and rents the next. That being said, you will still find clean sheets, clean towels and all the necessary pots, pans and utensils needed to make any meal. The stores are close enough to get there by car and the fireplace was warm and lovely on a chilly night. I would come back again in a flash. Thank you Jessica!
