Great property and location with crazy steps
This property is as described on the site. Fantastic location. The steps cannot be described - 75 of the narrowest, twistiest stairs anywhere. Not for the faint of heart or those not in great shape while schlepping luggage up. Once there, great property. Small but functional bedrooms.
Calling this "Luxury" is a bit of a stretch...
When we communicated about our arrival with our host, we were told that the apartment might not yet be clean but that we could leave our luggage while it was being serviced and return in a few hours. When we did arrive, our host noted that the other group may not have left quite yet and offered to buy us a coffee. When we did decide to venture up the stairs of death, the other group was still inside the apartment and were still mostly asleep and half clothed, trying to pull themselves together. The place smelled bad and it was really awkward. Not a great start. We reluctantly left our things there and went out to wonder for 3 hours.
When we returned the place was clean enough, but we lacked a full set of sheets and pillows on our bed and were given a very inadequate amount of towels (especially as we paid a large increase in daily rate due to booking for 4 guests, what exactly are we paying for then!?).
I contacted the property manager about it and was told the next morning that it would be taken care of. When we returned the following day, a two pack of paper towels was in the kitchen along with one or two more bath towels. No more pillows and still not nearly enough towels. Subsequently, we found that the clothing washer and dryer combo barely worked and the handle to open and close it was broken, trapping our belongings inside. We stopped trying to use it after that.
The cleaning person left two garbage bags of dirty towels and linens (from the group that stayed before us) in the hall closet. They started to smell up the place after a couple of days.
Broken dining room chair (total hazard)
A/C not working
No instructions on how to use anything inside the apartment
No coffee pods for coffee maker and they don't have them at the nearby grocery store
No personal touches or anything to make you feel welcomed
Very odd bathroom setup (two separate showers and one separate toilet room, it feels like a dorm)
Living area is uncomfortable and not usable, we always just sat at the dining table
Did I mention the "stairs of death"?
Warning! There is NO WAY that anyone could stay here that was not in good shape. The stairs up to the fourth floor place are very dangerous. I dropped large bags two times and I am pretty fit. Maybe I've been spoiled by my past VRBO experiences but this was a very disappointing stay and a waste of money.
Sunshine, Tulips, Museums and great lodging!
We had a wonderful time staying in the Museum Quarter and the owner and hostess were wonderful and responsive when needed.
Overwhelmingly beautiful apartment - I even got engaged on the roof!
We used to live in Amsterdam and have stayed in many many apartments in our time there and when visiting the city too - this really is the most perfect all-rounder we've ever stayed in! From arriving to leaving, the whole process was super easy and having a transfer to and from the airport was very much appreciated. The apartment itself is perfectly situated for exploring the city and there's lots of local amenities very close by. The interior is beautifully designed, the place is very clean and we stayed when it was VERY cold but the apartment was very warm which isn't always the case in these buildings. And finally.. the roof terrace... I might be bias as I did get engaged on the roof whilst visiting. The reason? Well in the morning he asked by favourite place in Amsterdam and after a little thought I said 'right here'. The reason why: there's a beautiful 360 panoramic view of the city and it's all to yourself! It's very rare to get such a beautiful view of the WHOLE city and not be surrounded by people, bikes, traffic etc. So to summarise: excellent service, beautiful apartment and location! We hope to visit again next time we return and thank-you to the hosts!
9 days in this charming apartment
My colleague and I stayed in this apartment for 9 days while we were in town for an event at the RAI. The apartment is lovely and comfortable, and it was a great place to relax in the evening. The bedrooms are good sizes and the beds were comfy, the living room is a great area to relax, and the toilet room and both showers were very clean and well-maintained. The dining room is spacious and has a small balcony, and we typically kept the doors to the small balcony open while we were there. But the best part of the apartment is the rooftop terrace, which has amazing views of the city - this is a great place to take in fresh air in the morning and relax in the evening.
Our only challenge was the daunting stairs - all 75 of them to reach the apartment - as we're typical Americans who are not used to climbing many stairs. And we brought large and heavy bags. But we adjusted quickly and the stairs were much less daunting after a couple of days.
As for location, the apartment is very close to the Rijksmuseum, which is amazing, very close to an Albert Heijn grocery store, and an easy walk to the city center and several shopping/restaurant districts. The apartment is in a great area for walking and it is accessible by several tram lines.
We thoroughly enjoyed our stay in the apartment and would welcome the opportunity to stay here again. The property manager, Jurjen, was great to communicate with and very helpful with the reservation and transportation from and to Schipol (thank you, Jurjen - the drivers were great and helped us with our bags!). Tessel was a very, very helpful and cheerful host when she checked us into the apartment. We also met Jurjen's brother when he stopped by to check on a window repair, and he was super nice and helpful, too.
Great place to stay!
Great location and the owner and hostess were both really wonderful
